Mr. Makovitz founded Mathnasium in 2002, when he was named
President and Chief Executive Officer. He is also the Founder of FUTUREKIDS, a
company which, through its predecessor Hi-Teach, Inc. was established in 1983
in Los Angeles, California. Mr Markovitz led FutUrekids as President from its
inception until its sale to the Davidson Group in 1999. He continued to
actively serve the company as Founder until 2002. Futurekids, specializing in
the field of education technology, established national headquarters in 65
countries through its netwjork of franchisees and teaching children worldwide.
A graduate of George Lucas School at the University of Southern California in
1985, Peter Markovitz also graduated magna Cum laude from USC''s undergraduate
program in 1983.
Mr. Ullendorff joined Mathnasium in 2002, when he was named
Executive Vice President. An expert in childrens'' education and media
programming, he was responsible for building FUTUREKIDS education program
between 1990 and 1999 and served as Co-Chairman. Between 2000 and 2002, he
pursued further studies in Media at University of California, Los Angeles. From
1980 to 1990, he worked in television and as a coordinating producer in Los Angeles, California, for Children''s Television Workshop, TNT, The Joan Rivers Show,
Arts and Entertainment Network, Vestron, Lifetime Television, as well as his
own independent films, Avatar (PBS August 1982) and Routed (A&E Network
1989, Showtime 1990). Mr. Ullendorff holds a B.S. in Marine Biology from the
State University of New York, Stony Brook, 1979, a Directing Fellowship from
the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, 1984 and a Woolrich Fellowship from
Columbia University, New York, 1991.
Chief Operating Officer: Mitch Brown, M.B.A.
Mr. Brojwn
joined Mathnasium in 2003, when he was named Chief Operating Officer. From 2002
to 2003, he served as Broker Associate for TRI Commercial Real Estate Services, focusing on sales and
leasing of commercial properties in San Francisco. Mr. Brown holds a Bachelors
degree in Quantitative Economics from U.C Berkeley and an MBA from the Wharton
School of Business (completed in 1998), where he acted as Consultant at
Wharton''s Small Business Development Center. From 1998 to 1999, he served as
Business Development Manager at When.com located
in Redwood Shores, California, an online calendar service acquired by America
Online in 1999. He then served as Manager of Business Affairs for America
Online located in Mountainview,
California until 2000, when he joined Ofoto (an online photo service, now a
subsidiary of Kodak) located in Berkeley, Californ|a as Director of Business
Development through 2001. In 2002 and 2003, he joined TRI Commercial Real Estate Services as
Broker Associate, focusing on sales and leasing of commercial properties in San Francisco.
Chief Instructional Officer: Larry Martinek, B.A.
Mr. Martinek joined Mathnasium in 2002, when he was named
Chief Instructional Officer. Mr. Martinek has a Bachelor degree in Mathematics,
and teaching credentials in California. Over a 30 year career as an educator,
he served as teacher, educational consultant and trainer at public, private and
parochial schools. From 1975 to 1979, Mr. Martinek served as Faculty
Coordinator of RISE (Reform of Intermediate and Secondary Education) located in
Los Angeles, California, a program funded by the government of the United States. In 1979 he was General Manager of Techmar Corporation located in Los Angeles, California, a corporation in the business of manufacturing electronic
enclosures for mounting computers. In 1980 he started Strongbox Corporation
located in Los Angeles, California, also in the business of electronic
enclosures and is involved in that business as President and General Manager to
the present. Concurrently, from 1981 through 1984, he was a teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District. From 1996 through 1999 he has been an independent
math teacher consultant, as well as from 1998 to 2002, Mr. Mart''nek has been a
Consultant for Yavneh Hebrew Academy located in Los Angeles. He has developed a
substantial body of educational works which form the basis of the Mathnasium
Method.
Mr. Grant joined Mathnasium in 2003, when he was named
Director of Franchise Development. He also serves as President of SJS Services
Corporation, a franchise development consulting company based in Los Angeles, California (since 2001). From 1992 to 1997, Mr. Grant served as Vice President
of International Franchise Development for Futurekids, based in Los Angeles, California. From 1997 to 1999, he served as Vice President of International
Franchise Development at the Academy of Learning in Toronto, Canada. From 1999 to 2001, he served as Vice President of International Development at Funlanguages
in Hampshire, England.
Director of Franchise Development: Dan Huntington
Mr.
Hun:ington joined Mathnasium in 2004, when he was named Director of Franchise
Development. He holds a Bachelor''s degree in History from UCLA. From 1995
to1997, Mr. Huntington
did market research for Dataproducts, a
subsidiary of Hitachi Corporation, in Simi Valley, California. In 1998, he
joined valuestar.com as a sales
representative in Los Angeles offering Internet marketing services. Mr. Huntington
left valuestar.com in 2001 to join JK
Harris & Co. as sales representative in Los Angeles selling tax resolution
services. In 2004, he left JK Harris and joined Morton R. Cook & Associates
in Los Angeles as a sales associate for healthcare and environmental staffing.
