Dick Bissell - Franchise Consultant Dick Bissell came to FranChoice in 2002 with a great background that would help potential new business owners find the best match for their interests, skill sets, funding and location. He has been on both sides of the ‘business fence” – working for two worldwide corporations in sales, marketing and human resource positions and before joining FranChoice, he owned one of the largest and most successful Money Mailer direct mail advertising franchises in the country. Dick began his business career with Armstrong World Industries in Lancaster, PA. His sales positions, regional manager responsibilities and marketing manager jobs gave him great skills in working with employees, distributors and suppliers. Favorite job at Armstrong? That’s easy – national college recruiter. Why? Because it was such a rewarding experience finding the “diamond in the rough” candidate who turned into a top producing sales person, gifted interior designer or industry leading engineer. Next was a job a headhunter found for Dick in Santa Monica, CA. He became VP Sales and Marketing for LouverDrape, the world’s largest manufacturer of vertical blinds. That was a 9 year roller coaster ride building a distribution network and sales team while the company grew 400% and was bought and sold six times! A new business venture with The Kellwood Company brought Dick to Chicago in 1993 and six months later, the division he was working for was sold off and he was downsized out of his job. Welcome to the 90’s! It was then the decision was made to get off The Corporate Bus and find a business to own. Six months later, he bought a Money Mailer business in the western suburbs of Chicago. In the 8 years he owned that business, the clients grew to over 500 and that business was one of the most successful in the franchise. When it was time to move on to a new challenge, FranChoice came along right when 5 buyers ended up bidding on the Money Mailer business. It was the perfect time to take both the corporate and entrepreneurial knowledge he’d developed and put it to use helping others achieve their dreams of having their own business. Best part of FranChoice? Learning that a couple you put into business became their company’s Rookies of the Year or Franchisees of the Year! Dick divides his year between Alden, Michigan and Jupiter, FL and loves working on his golf game, cooking and entertaining for friends and family or spending time with his children and three grandsons out in the Bay Area.
