In 1978 at the age of 25, Bill created his own retail/manufacturing/distribution/marketing start-up eyewear business called America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses, growing it to more than $100 million in annual revenues and the 9th largest eyewear company in the United States. The company continues to grow and prosper today, 30+ years later.
In 1990, Bill sold the majority of the company for $24 million to an investment firm while continuing to run it as CEO, Chairman, and President and maintaining a minority ownership position. In 1993, he orchestrated the buy-back of the majority of the company for $40 million with senior and subordinated debt. In 1997, Bill sold the company in its entirety for $50 million. At that time, Bill had more than 100 stores, employed more than 1500 people, and had served millions of customers.
Bill created and was involved in every aspect of developing and growing his business from the ground up. As someone who has gone through starting and building a highly successful business, Bill understands everything that is involved - beginning with an idea, starting with a single location and growing his newly-created start-up into a national brand. Bill has dealt with every imaginable aspect of business (and some unimaginable ☺), providing him with a rare and unique understanding of exactly what it takes to go into business for yourself – making his advice to you instrumental. Subsequent to the final sale of his business, and in addition to choosing to spend valuable time with his family while volunteering in his community and other projects, Bill served as a Business Consultant with investment firms, as well as serving on the Advisory/Boards of Directors of various businesses and franchises.
Most importantly, Bill and his wife’s proudest achievements (for which they can only take partial credit) are their two grown children, a son and a daughter.
